Four Years pass in Pips life and the story continues on a Saturday night in where Joe, Mr. Wopsle and some other people who are listening to Mr. Wopsle make a judgement on a murder that was reported in the local newspaper. While Mr. Wopsle is speaking a stranger walks in and proceeds to publicly humiliate him in front of everyone, seemingly for his personal satisfaction. He then brings Joe and Pip out the room and offers Pip a chance

Pip starts of getting into a routine of apprentice life as a blacksmith under Joe. He also sees biddy as a “common” person,unlike Estella who Pip already was in Love with. Biddy and Pip confide with each over and Pip tells Biddy about Estella and, trying to be as impolite as possible she says Pip should stop pursuing her to which Pip admitted Biddy’s wiseness. Biddy and Pip stumble upon Orlick who both of them admit their dislike for him. Biddy and Pip then leaves and Pip goes over in his mind why he has picked Estella to love over Biddy

Pip begins to piece together what happens to Mrs. Joe and learns that she was hit with something blunt and heavy on the spine. From this pip believes that she could of been attacked by either the mysterious man with the file or Orlick. The ‘police’ then come in but they fail to find anything and even suspect Joe. As Mrs Joe comes around, she can’t speak and can only write very basic letters. Her tempers also lessens and biddy comes round to bless the house and everyone in it. Biddy also starts caring for Mrs. Joe as she needs it and discovers that Mrs. Joe wants to see Orlick. She then speaks to him and there is no sign of any indifference between them.

In this chapter Biddy teaches Pip all of her knowledge for which Pip tries to teach Joe. Pip and Joe got to the “old battery” on the marshes to learn. Pip asks for a day off one Sunday to visit Mrs. Havisham but Joe thinks she will take it the wrong way and she will think Pip is coming back for more money. In the end Pip does not go but gets the day off and meets Orlick, Joes new worker and he does not like Pip being able to have a day off while he has to work. An argument ensues and Joe ends up knocking Orlick after Mrs. Joe gets involved. Pip then goes to Mrs. Havishams house and finds out that Estella moved to France for the indefinite future. Pip gets kicked out and meets Mr. Wopsle who is buying a book and invites Pip over for Mr. Pumblechook to read it aloud. After its over Pip and Mr. Wopsle walk back but then see chaos going on and then they find Mrs. Joe unconscious lying on the floor.

This chapter is very short but helps us understand Pips feelings of being ashamed of his home, mainly due to the constant chastising by Mrs. Havisham and Estella over Pip being ‘working class’. Pip also continues with his apprenticeship as a blacksmith with Joe and even “dreaded” seeing “Estella looking in at one of the wooden windows of the forge”.

McDonald s has been heralded for years as the market leader in cheap fast food for which it has become a well known icon for unhealthy food which started an obesity epidemic. For years McDonalds has been the subject of investigations over their suspicious practices and they have been accused of promoting unhealthy food, exploiting workers, robbing the poor damaging the environment and cruelty against animals.I will be discussing these issues.

Chapter 13 starts with Joe looking for his finest clothes for his visit to Mrs. Havishams with Pip as she requested. Joe goes to Mrs. Havishams with Pip and is met by Estella. Pip notes that Joe was looking “so unlike himself” on the day, wearing his good Sunday clothes while Pip usually saw him in his grubby blacksmiths uniform with soot covering it. Mrs. Havisham asks Joe general questions about Pips apprenticeship to which Joe responds with a false tone, trying to sound like a higher class then he is. This is unsuccessful and comes of as self concious of his social standing in the company of Mrs. Havisham and Estella. When asked a question by Mrs. Havisham, Joe responds to the question through Pip by addresing him instead of Mrs. Havisham when responding to her. After their conversation, Mrs. Havisham gifts Pip 25 guineas which is a fortune to Joe and Pip. She then sends Pip of and tells him not to respond, saying “Gargery is your master now”. The two of them leave and tell Mrs. Joe and Mr. Pumblechook of the events which occurred and Pip is rushed of to the town hall immediately. The people in there view pip as a criminal, however he is just there to become bound to Joe as an apprentice to his blacksmiths trade.

Chapter 12 starts with Pip growing uneasy over his fight with the boy at Miss Haversham’s estate. Pip worry’s that he will be arrested, much like he thought when he aided the escaped convict at the beginning of the book. Pip then goes to Miss Havisham’s again and quickly checks the scene of the fight for any blood and then covers some up with some garden mold.  Pip goes to meet Miss Haversham who asks him to push her around in her garden chair. Pip and Miss Haversham discuss a number of topics including what pip plans to do when he grows older to which he replies that he will become apprenticed to Joe as a blacksmith. Miss Haversham also teases pip over his attraction to Estella and then asks them to play cards together. Pip then grows apart from his family very slowly as he notices their flaws and general obnoxious behavior, mostly in Mr Pumblechook and Mrs Joe.

A large period of time passes, which is not specified and the story comes to another visit to Miss Haversham’s where she asks about Joe and his profession, who Pip is planned to be an apprentice to. She then tells Pip to bring Joe on his next visit to the her estate. Pip returns to tell Joe about the invite, which brings about a “rampage” on Mrs Joe’s part which sends Pip to bed and ends the chapter

Chapter 11 starts of with Pip returning to Miss Haversham’s house/mansion and is met by Estella who guides Pip to a different section of the house and one which had never been before. Pip then stumbles upon guests at Miss Haversham’s party due to her birthday. The party guests act as if pip is not there, other then a few interactions with some guests. The guests and pip meet up with Miss Haversham, who is in her normal sour state. The guests seem most interested in Miss Haversham’s inheritance while she plays along with their “act”. After the interaction, Pip and Miss Haversham go on a walk, discussing her birthday and she then asks him and Estella to play cards.

Pip is left to wander around the estate, who is then met by a boy who is willing to fight pip for seemingly no reason. Pip then beats the boy in the fight almost effortlessly but commends him for his bravery. He then finds Estella waiting for him who gives him a kiss and it is implied that she arranged the fight. Pip then leaves and the chapter ends.
